With Hope
by Stephen Curtis Chapman

Vocals by Kaye Maze
(MP3 format)

This is not at all how
We thought it was supposed to be
We had so many plans for you
We had so many dreams
And now you've gone away
And left us with the memories of your smile
And nothing we can say
And nothing we can do
Can take away the pain
The pain of losing you, but ...

We can cry with hope
We can say goodbye with hope
'Cause we know our goodbye is not the end, oh no
And we can grieve with hope
'Cause we believe with hope
(There's a place by God's grace)
There's a place where we'll see your face again
We'll see your face again

And never have I known
Anything so hard to understand
And never have I questioned more
The wisdom of God's plan
But through the cloud of tears
I see the Father's smile and say well done
And I imagine you
Where you wanted most to be
Seeing all your dreams come true
'Cause now you're home
And now you're free, and ...

We have this hope as an anchor
'Cause we believe that everything
God promised us is true, so ...

So we can cry with hope
And say goodbye with hope

We wait with hope
And we ache with hope
We hold on with hope
We let go with hope

I used to sing this to Alex before he was born and I sang him into Heaven with it. It seemed to fit him. It means a lot to me.

Baby Mine

Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine
Little one when you play
Don't you mind what you say
Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear, baby of mine
If they knew all about you
They'd end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they'd give just for
The right to hold you
From your head to your toes
You're not much, goodness knows
But you're so precious to me
Cute as can be, baby of mine

This poem is a favorite of my best friend and it reminds her so much of Alex that she will read it on the anniversary of his death every year.

The Answer
By Rudyard Kipling

A Rose, in tatters on the garden path,
Cried out to God and murmured 'gainst His Wrath,
Because a sudden wind at twilight's hush
Had snapped her stem alone of all the bush.
And God, Who hears both sun-dried dust and sun,
Had pity, whispering to that luckless one,
"Sister, in that thou sayest We did not well --
What voices heardst thou when thy petals fell?"
And the Rose answered, "In that evil hour
A voice said, `Father, wherefore falls the flower?
For lo, the very gossamers are still.'
And a voice answered, `Son, by Allah's will!'"

Then softly as a rain-mist on the sward,
Came to the Rose the Answer of the Lord:
"Sister, before We smote the dark in twain,
Ere yet the stars saw one another plain,
Time, Tide, and Space, We bound unto the task
That thou shouldst fall, and such an one should ask."
Whereat the withered flower, all content,
Died as they die whose days are innocent;
While he who questioned why the flower fell
Caught hold of God and saved his soul from Hell.

I would say this over and over when I was driving to see Alex or going to a doctor’s appointment with him. I also used it while I was in court.

Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed,
for I am your God. I will strengthen you.
Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold
you with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isaiah 41:10

I pulled this one off the internet. I seemed to capture how I feel about having lost my precious baby.

IF I COULD HAVE A LIFETIME WISH
A DREAM THAT WOULD COME TRUE.
I'D PRAY TO GOD WITH ALL MY HEART
FOR YESTEREDAY AND YOU.
A THOUSAND WORDS CAN'T BRING YOU BACK;
I KNOW BECAUSE I'VE TRIED.
AND NEITHER WILL A MILLION TEARS,
I KNOW BECAUSE I'VE CRIED.
YOU LEFT BEHIND MY BROKEN HEART
AND HAPPY MEMORIES TOO
I NEVER WANTED MEMORIES,
I ONLY WANTED YOU.

This is another of my favorite songs that I would sing to Alex. It also seem to fit. I sang it like a lullaby to him. I still sing it to him when I go to visit his memorial or when I really just missing him.

Valentine
If there were no words
No way to speak
I would still hear you
If there were no tears
No way to feel inside
I’d still feel for you

And even if the sun refused to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart until the end of time
You’re all I need, my love, my valentine

All of my life
I have been waiting for
All you give to me
You’ve opened my eyes
And showed me how to love unselfishly

I’ve dreamed of this a thousand times before
But in my dreams I couldn’t love you more
I will give you my heart
Until the end of time...
You’re all I need, my love, my valentine

And even if the sun refused to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart until the end of time
’cause all I need is you, my valentine
You’re all I need, my love, my valentine
